This course is suitable for those who in their work with parents, encounter adult relationship issues and difficulties which impact on the capacity to co-parent.

Parenting workers often suspect that the parents' relationship can fuel difficulties with parenting and might be at the heart of a child's difficulties; at the same time these same professionals often feel they lack the confidence and skill to address issues in the couple relationship.

The course aims

  • Develop your skills in recognising negative cycles of interaction in parents
  • Provide an introduction to the understanding of couple relationships
  • Explore the concerns workers may have in managing boundary issues
  • Develop skills in working with both parents
  • Develop skills in working with inter-parental conflict

Learning Objectives

  • Learn more about the psychological processes underlying relationship problems
  • Understand more about unconscious processes at work in family life
  • Learn about the impact of inter-parental conflict on children
  • Learn more about the impact of parental separation on children's attachment styles
  • Explore and understand the personal impact of your clients on yourself

Time commitment: 

One day 10am - 4pm

Fee

£105 for individuals, voluntary and charitable sectors
