Who is divorce and separation consultation for?

The reasons for separating or divorcing are many, and the process itself can be painful and complicated. Our experience suggests that when facing such a crisis people can be helped by an opportunity to make sense of their emotional state. This, in turn, can help them to separate out and manage the legal and emotional processes with which they are simultaneously involved.

Who will I see?

You will see one of our couple psychotherapists or relationship counsellors who have specialised in this area.

How do we work?

The Divorce and Separation Unit offers a focused, time limited opportunity to think about your individual situation over three consultations of one and a quarter hours each. The aim is to help both individuals and couples think about their current struggles and make links to underlying themes in their lives. The service is not mediation.

How do I apply?

Appointments are made by contacting the psychotherapy services administrator on 020 7380 1950  or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. In preparation for your sessions, we find it helpful to have as much background information as possible so as to make best use of the time here.

For this reason we ask you to complete an initial form and return it prior to the consultations. Our experience has also shown that many people find completing a form a useful tool to think about themselves and their situation.
